The aims of the Zoo Guide Directory are:
To provide a definitive information resource on zoo guides, concentrating exclusively on guides from the UK;
To make this resource freely available for the purposes of education and research;
To indirectly promote the websites of UK zoos and wildlife parks, as well as major aquariums and bird gardens that in turn this will promote their conservation programmes;
To illustrate the changing nature of zoos and the times in which they exist by displaying the guides in their year of publication;
To illustrate the changes in the art work and printing techniques and enable trends to be analysed;
To promote zoo guides as a reference and souvenir of a visit to the zoo;
To encourage zoo visitors to appreciate the worth of a zoo guide purchase.
The images are not to scale, although aspect ratios have been maintained. Zoo Directory images are available as low resolution (lo-res) and medium resolution (med-res) images as there is no intention to breach the rights of the copyright owners of the images on the zoo guides that these rights would certainly be breached if high resolution (hi-res) images were published. The purpose of the lo-res and mid-res images is to enable confident identification of a zoo guide.
The initial publications are from the website author's own collection.
